Whilst there is a vast array of software for your Mac, the gaming situation is woeful. This is not to say that there are no games for OSX. There are. I have some (honest!)
If you enjoy playing last years (or older) greatest hits, you’ll be well catered for. Unreal Tournament 2004, Knights of the Old Republic, Warcraft III, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, Neverwinter Nights and more are around, and are immense fun. But the wait between releases is glacial.
For example, Knights took over a year to get to the Mac. The wait was worth it, but the PC had the sequel before the Mac got the original. Doom 3 is only just about to be released for OSX and if you haven’t got a G5, forget it. And from what I can gather from Mac site scuttlebutt Half Life 2 won’t even be ported. Name any current top game for the PC, and you’ll be extremely lucky to see it make it to OSX in the next 12 months.

If you’re looking for a complete replacement for your PC, and you’re an avid Gamer then a Mac is not for you.
There is one exception, however. Blizzard have made World of Warcraft, this year\'s must-have MMORPG, available simultaneously on Mac and PC. Hoorah for them!
If you’re still keen on a Mac, and want to make a complete PC break, then do as I did and buy a games console – it’ll save a lot of frustration. Otherwise you’ll need to keep your PC on standby for gaming duties.

So there you have it. The OSX software situation in a nutshell. More than you expected, but sadly lacking in the gaming arena. Tune into the next and final instalment of switch side story, where after a trip to the Apple store Mrs GOO finally succumbs to the darkside…
